MASSAGE THERAPY

Massage tailored to your body and what you need today.

Whether you are looking for time to relax or more focused work around areas of muscular tension, Jo adapts each massage to the person in front of her.

A MASSAGE THAT RESPONDS TO YOU

Not every body needs the same treatment.

Massage can be gentle and deeply relaxing, more focused around particular areas of muscular tension, or somewhere between the two.

Jo has training in both massage therapy and sports therapy, allowing her to adapt pressure, pace and technique according to what feels appropriate for you on the day.

The session begins with a conversation so that Jo understands what you are looking for and whether there are any health considerations that need to be taken into account.

TWO DIFFERENT NEEDS

Relaxation or more focused massage.

Relaxation massage

A slower, calming massage can provide time to switch off, settle physically and enjoy a period of uninterrupted rest.

Pressure can be adjusted throughout the treatment so that the massage remains comfortable and appropriate for you.

Focused massage

Where particular muscles feel tight or uncomfortable, Jo can spend more time working around those areas using appropriate massage techniques.

Focused does not have to mean painfully deep. The pressure should remain something you can communicate about throughout the session.

WHY CHOOSE MASSAGE?

Time to slow down and reconnect with your body.

Relaxation

Massage can provide a dedicated period of quiet in which you do not need to achieve anything or respond to anyone else.

Muscular tension

Focused massage may help you feel more comfortable in areas that feel tight, overworked or physically tense.

Body awareness

A session can also make it easier to notice where you habitually hold tension and how different areas of the body feel.

WHAT HAPPENS AT YOUR APPOINTMENT?

Your comfort comes first.

01

Consultation

Jo will ask what you would like from the massage and about any relevant health conditions, injuries, medications or areas that should be avoided.

02

Treatment

You will be appropriately covered during the treatment, with only the area being worked on uncovered. Pressure and technique can be adjusted as the session progresses.

03

Afterwards

You will have time to sit up gradually, get dressed and ask any questions before leaving.

Massage should feel safe and comfortable.

You can ask for more or less pressure, request that an area is avoided, change position or stop the massage at any point.

Jo will also explain when massage may need to be postponed or adapted because of a health condition, recent injury, infection, inflammation or another concern.

Massage and healthcare

Massage can be used as part of a broader approach to wellbeing, but it is not a substitute for diagnosis or medical treatment.

Persistent or unexplained pain, significant swelling, sudden weakness, recent trauma or other concerning symptoms may need assessment by an appropriate healthcare professional rather than massage.

Your massage does not have to fit a label.

You may arrive wanting a relaxing massage and discover one area needs a little more attention, or you may want focused work while still wanting the overall session to feel calm.

The treatment can be adapted as the session unfolds.

Would you like to book a massage?

If you are unsure whether massage is appropriate for you, or whether a relaxation or more focused session would suit you better, you are welcome to ask Jo first.
